We provide assistance information for low and moderate income households. The assistance programs include federal funded programs, State of California funded programs and assistance offered by non-profit organizations.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) administers Federal aid to local housing agencies (HAS) that have been entrusted with the task of providing affordable, safe and decent housing to low income families. At present, nearly 1.2 million households are living in public housing units that are managed by 3,300 HAs. These units include single family dwellings as well as condominiums. A US citizen or eligible immigrant, whose gross annual income is less than 80% of the median income of the county in which he/she is residing, is eligible for housing assistance.
Medical Assistance
Medicaid Program, which provides medical benefits to low-income households, is administered by each state within the broad framework of the guidelines established by the Federal govt. It is meant for people who do not have medical insurance. People with inadequate medical coverage are also eligible to receive Medicaid benefits provided they are deemed eligible in accordance with the rules laid down by the state. Since the eligibility criteria varies from state to state, a person, who is eligible for Medicaid in one state, may not qualify in another. In general, you can apply for Medicaid if you have childern and have limited income and resources.
energy Assistance
LIHEAP is a Federally funded block grant program that is implemented at the State level. Heating, although often overlooked, is an important provision in every home, especially in places where winters are harsh. To alleviate this, the government created the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, or LIHEAP. It is aimed at helping households to have access to heating during winter. During the summer season, the program assists families in paying for air conditioning.
